We’ve all heard of muscle memory; the idea that if you repeat a motion often enough, your muscles begin to remember what it felt like and be able to repeat it without thinking. The same is true with golf but there is something more.
In golf, it’s not just muscle memory, there’s an emotional and mental memory that comes into play, too. The feeling you get when you hit that one shot, you know the one, where everything comes together like dropping that last piece into the jigsaw puzzle and the picture is complete. That sense of satisfaction. You are always striving to get that feeling back.
One way to reinforce that memory, that feeling, that success is to always hold your finish after the shot. Let it settle in to your body and mind. Take note of it all and strive with each subsequent shot to fit into that same finish. Then go out and just enjoy the game; don’t think about it, just experience it.
